The Beauty of Zen FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Organic Salon & Head Spa
General
Are all your products organic and ammonia-free?
Yes. We exclusively use gentle, ammonia-free colour and organic, plant-based products. We believe beautiful hair shouldn't come at the cost of your health or the environment.
Are you a full salon or a solo suite?
The Beauty of Zen is a private solo suite, Shannon works with one guest at a time, by appointment only. While we offer a full menu of services, we are not a multi-chair salon, so we are unable to accommodate multiple appointments simultaneously. Each visit is intentionally unhurried, with the full space and attention dedicated to you.
What should I expect at my first visit?
Your first visit begins with a thoughtful consultation where Shannon discusses your hair goals, lifestyle, and any scalp concerns. From there, a personalised plan is created. No rush, just intentional care.
Where are you located?
We're located in the My Salon Suites at 1023 Southbridge St, Suite 204, Worcester, MA 01610. Conveniently accessible from Shrewsbury, Auburn, Millbury, and all of Central Massachusetts.
Head Spa
What are the benefits of a head spa?
A head spa supports scalp health, hair quality, and overall well-being all at once. Expect a calmer, balanced scalp, softer and stronger hair, reduced tension through the head and neck, and a meaningful drop into rest. Over a series of treatments, guests notice less buildup, less sensitivity, healthier-looking hair, and a more grounded nervous system.
How long does a head spa session take?
Plan for 45 to 90 minutes depending on the service booked. We never rush the experience, the slowness is the point.
How often should I book a head spa?
For ongoing scalp wellness, every 4 to 6 weeks. For targeted concerns like dandruff, thinning, or eczema, a closer cadence (every 2 to 3 weeks) for the first few sessions, then taper.
Will I notice a difference?
You will notice an immediate scalp improvement after 1 session, however prolonged results compound over a series of treatments and proper at-home care.
Ammonia-Free Color
Does ammonia-free color last as long as conventional color?
Yes, and often the condition holds longer because the cuticle isn't being aggressively opened. We may recommend a glaze refresh between major appointments to keep tone reading exactly as intended.
Can you cover stubborn greys without ammonia?
Absolutely. Natulique's coverage is reliable on resistant grey when applied with the right developer strength and processing time. We've corrected many guests who were told otherwise elsewhere.
Is a color consultation included?
Always. Every color visit begins with a thorough consultation, hair history, lifestyle, maintenance preference, and the look you're chasing. Color correction or major changes may require a dedicated standalone consultation first.
What if I have a sensitive scalp?
Tell us at the consultation. We can patch test, choose a milder developer, and adjust application technique to avoid scalp contact where appropriate.
Haircuts & Styling
Do you offer dry cutting or wet cutting?
Both, depending on your hair type and the result we're working toward. Curly and wavy hair is often cut dry to read its natural pattern. Sharp lines and one-length looks usually go wet. We choose based on the cut, not a rule.
Will you blow-dry and style it?
Yes, every cut includes a finished style so you see exactly what we built. We'll also walk through how to recreate it at home with what you already have.
How often should I get a trim?
Roughly every 8 to 12 weeks for most styles to keep shape and condition. Shorter cuts and bobs sometimes benefit from a 6-week trim to hold the line.
Sound Bath
What is a sound bath, exactly?
A sound bath is a guided meditation experience where you lie down and receive vibrational sound from instruments like crystal singing bowls, chimes, and gongs. The frequencies guide the nervous system into a parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) state, most guests describe it as somewhere between deep meditation and the moment just before sleep.
Do I need to know how to meditate?
Not at all. There's nothing to do. You lie down, the sound does the work, and the experience meets you wherever you are. First-timers often have the most profound experience.
What should I bring or wear to a sound bath?
Wear something comfortable. We provide mats, blankets, and bolsters. You're welcome to bring your own pillow if it helps you relax. A water bottle for after is a good idea.
How often do you host group sound bath sessions?
Twice a month. Dates and booking links are shared via Instagram and email, follow @thebeautyofzen or reach out directly to be added to the early-access list.
